Report on the progress made in collecting the Irish lichens: accompanying a presentation to the Natural History Society of a complete series of specimens of those hitherto collected: with an annotated list thereof, alphabetically arranged, and an index-list to the collection in.
Probably the best book today on the identification of British and Irish lichens. As a complete beginner this book took a while to get used to but it is well worth the effort.
It contains a good glossary of terms and diagrams showing what to look for. It aims to be useful to lichenologists /5(8). It is a cross-genre kind of book, rich in scientific detail as well as filled with story telling and spiritual meaning. At times, the author resorts to anthromorphizing that I personally don't find totally convincing.
Still, ideally, it is a book to be kept in a prominent place and consulted regularly rather than read in one go and filed by: 1.
